Vantage Pictures on recreating mum's fondest memories with the OPPO Reno7 Pro on Mother’s Day 2022

In this new branded documentary for OPPO, we follow the children of the Bagasal family as they recreate special photos from their childhood to give mom a unique gift for Mother’s Day.

Creative director Alexis Odiowei tapped into a social media trend that has been popularised over the past few years, recreating photos from our childhood in the present day.

“I felt that utilising this trend would serve numerous purposes. First off, it would add an element of fun to the video, as often content centered around Mother’s Day is very sentimental and emotional," he says. "We wanted to be a bit more lighthearted in our approach and the device of recreating childhood moments allowed the family to be more playful. Secondly, we wanted to show off the OPPO Reno7 Pro’s portrait mode. Showcasing old family photos side-by-side with the images taken on the OPPO Reno7 Pro illustrated the quality of the Portrait Mode feature in a natural way that ensured we didn’t have to call out specific features or take away from the story. Finally, we wanted to speak to OPPO’s target audience in a language that they understand. It seems every other month there is a new social media trend, this is a staple of the way in which Gen-Z audiences communicate with each other. Tapping into one of these trends allowed us to align the OPPO brand and their younger target demographics.”

On working with the Bagasal family, Alexis said: “It was important that we didn’t over produce or direct the family too much. Our approach was to simply give the family the mission and let them execute in a way that felt natural to them. To avoid doing multiple takes and breaking them out of their rhythm, we had two cameras rolling throughout. This allowed us to shoot long takes at different focal lengths, helping us maintain a natural flow throughout the day and avoid interrupting the whole process. The Bagasal family were so bubbly & fun and we felt the final film beautifully captured the real bond between mother and children.”
