Composers and artist duo Jessica Jones and Tim Morrish, who in collaboration work under the nom de plume Vanbur, have created a beautiful bespoke composition for Bvlgari Man’s The Power of The Elements campaign, supervised by Anomaly and Manners McDade.
Lyndarn Harrison, creative at Anomaly says about the project: “Nature is at the very core of our creative concept. Originally, we wanted to create a symphony using the sounds of nature in order to capitalize on Lorenzo Viotti being a world-renowned conductor. So, just like he controls an orchestra of different instruments, we wanted the sounds of the natural world to come together, not just into a melodic harmony, but also an intense atmospheric soundtrack that reflected the power of the elements in which the scents are inspired by. To dial up this power, we wanted the score to ebb and flow - for example, a deep breath of fresh glacial air being counteracted by the crashing thunder of a raging storm.
Right away, the creative team from Manners McDade hit the nail on the head and provided us with lots of options. Inviting us to collaborate with them throughout to create a truly powerful composition. The final composition was produced by the composing duo, Vanbur. It was amazing to speak with them both directly about what direction we all wanted to take the composition in. They really understood the vision of the film and what we aspired to get from the track, and we feel that the end result is reflective of that."
Vanbur added: “It centres around a violin performance which compliments Lorenzo Viotti’s movements as he conducts the elements. It sits against a bed of organic synth elements and string textures. We wrote an improvisatory style violin solo which Jess recorded - after that we sent across to Nicole Crespo to record remotely for the final version.”
Vanbur is comprised of the prolific film and television scoring composers Jessica Jones and Tim Morrish. The duo’s combined credits include upcoming drama for BBC/Netflix Red Rose, The Surgeon’s Cut and Tinder Swindler as well as additional music cues for films such as Aquaman and The Alienist. Vanbur’s music has been placed in Sky’s recent drama The Rising, Amazon’s Hanna and the pair have scored for brands including as Barbour, Levi’s and Bose.
The duo self-released their debut EP ‘Human’ in 2020, which appears in Spotify playlists such as ‘Most Beautiful Songs In The World’, and ’Not Quite Classical’. They have since released 2 tracks as part of Deutsche Grammophon compilations - Project XII & Winter Tales - and their tracks have been remixed by the likes of Mogwai and Katie Gately. The pair are currently working on their debut album.
