There’s nothing that the team at Wash likes more than receiving a brief that gives them the opportunity to flex their creative and technical muscles. This job for prestigious whisky brand, Balvenie, was a great example of such an opportunity.
The fabulous people at William Grant & Sons came up with the idea of bringing their pack artwork to life. The packs had already been beautifully illustrated by the talented Andy Lovell, who uses combinations of paint and block printing to create emotive and tangible work. The illustrations on their own tell a story and Wash were tasked with creating twenty second commercials where the illustrations came to life and drew the viewer deeper into the Balvenie Whisky brand and ethos.
It’s always amazing working with world class artists like Andy and he was incredibly helpful in suggesting creative routes Wash could take and helping them build the assets to bring them to life.
The team at Wash said it was hugely enjoyable, creating an animation that felt like each cell was hand painted in such a distinctive way, drawing on both the creative and technical know-how in order to produce an animation design which still captured Andys’ tactile style. Wash created a lovely animated story that showcases their “Curious Casks” range.
