Advertising agency barrettSF launched the ‘Ballroom Brawl’ video spot today featuring some of the biggest names in WWE history to announce the release of the new WWE 2K20 video game.
In the spot, game cover stars Becky Lynch and Roman Reigns are attending a gala inside a mansion filled with WWE Superstars and legends, including “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan, Sting, Bret Hart, and Shawn Michaels. Tensions rise as the various Superstars stare down and confront one another, highlighting old rivalries and teasing new match-ups that are only possible in WWE 2K20. These tense scenes are intercut with gameplay of the Superstars battling each other – a subconscious window into what they all really want to do at the party. At the climax of the spot, a slice of cake is accidentally smashed into Reigns’ custom suit and the packed room comes to a standstill. The spot finishes outside the mansion, as the sound of chaotic brawling comes from inside.
“2019 is a big year for 2K,” said Chris Snyder of 2K. “So we brought together the biggest male and female Superstars from the past and present to celebrate. ‘Step Inside’ is an invitation for everyone to join in.”
Prior to ‘Ballroom Brawl’ barrettSF created two other spots for the ‘Step Inside’ campaign. The Cover Reveal spot, which debuted on August 5th, featured tuxedo-clad WWE Superstars, including Hulk Hogan and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, mingling at a “men’s-only” party that comes to a crashing halt when Lynch literally breaks through the room’s glass ceiling. In the pre-order spot, WWE Hall of Famer’s Sting, Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels join Hogan and Austin at the party. The five legends marvel at how a woman has become “The Man” these days, and tensely question who “The Man” truly was in their era. This was the first time all five have been on-screen together.
“Fans love debating and discussing the biggest matches that never happened,” said barrettSF creative director, Todd Eisner. “Like Hulk Hogan and Stone Cold Steve Austin, those two never actually had a one-on-one match. We wanted to show that the only place it can happen is in WWE 2K20.”
‘Ballroom Brawl’ dropped on October 22 to coincide with the release date of WWE 2K20 on PS4, Xbox One and PC platforms. The spot will run on broadcast TV with an emphasis on the WWE Network, Monday Night Raw on USA Network, and Friday Night Smackdown on FOX. It will also be prominent on all social media and digital platforms.
