Marvel - The Guardians of the Galaxy The Holiday Special
For The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special, James Gunn wanted a different vibe than TGOG vol1 and vol2.
We got inspiration from 1970s sitcoms and TV specials as they were very popular those days. We decided to use Bookman as our main typeface because its alt glyphs have that special Christmas-y feel.
And we wanted to achieve the 70s television look and feel. For this reason, the typography treatments were all distorted in some way – some had an optical film look, others leaned more towards analog video artifacts such as the ones found in old VHS tapes, but none felt overly digital or polished.
