Rachel McDonald and Peter Goetz's documentary Dancing Warrior has been nominated for the prestigious Documentary Short Jury Award at the upcoming Austin Film Festival, running from October 24th to 31st, 2024.
This latest nomination follows the film’s recent success, including winning Best Photography at Ona Film Festival and official selections at both the Crested Butte Film Festival and Port Townsend Film Festival.
Set on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, Dancing Warrior delves into the lives of Lakota youth as they navigate the challenges of growing up in an environment marked by some of the highest teen suicide rates in the U.S. Despite these difficulties, many find hope and purpose through the traditional Lakota sport of horse racing, known as 'Indian Relay.' The documentary follows one racing team, Dancing Warrior, as they come together to compete in this powerful and deeply rooted tradition.
Winners will be announced on Thursday, October 31st at Austin Film Festival.
