Engine Creative’s ‘Creature Discomforts’ Life in Lockdown’ for the Born Free Foundation, which mirrors the struggles faced by the public during lockdown onto the lives of wild animals in captivity, won a Bronze Lion at Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.
Reviewed by international juries, Cannes Lions sets the global benchmark for creativity and effectiveness in the branded communications industry.
International wildlife charity, The Born Free Foundation, protects wild animals in their natural habitat, campaigns against the keeping of wild animals in captivity and rescues wild animals in need.
The film uses real life interviews of societies’ experiences of the 2020 lockdown to tell the stories of wild animals forced to live in zoos, aquariums, circuses and in other forms of imprisonment with restrictions placed on them not dissimilar to the lockdown.
Billy Faithfull, chief creative officer at Engine Creative explained: “The lockdown provided us with a unique opportunity to produce a piece of work which people could truly relate to what it might feel like to be an animal in captivity. It is as amusing as it is uncomfortable and we’re thrilled it’s received recognition for its creativity in building empathy with its audience.”
The win follows the work receiving a Wood Pencil at the D&AD Awards and winning a Webby Award in the Advertising, Media & PR, Social Video category earlier this year.
