Square Peg Edit has announced that acclaimed editor Julian Tranquille has joined our team. With over 20 years of experience in the industry, Julian brings a wealth of knowledge and a distinctive creative flair that has contributed to some exceptional and award-winning films, television series, commercials, and music videos.
Julian's career began after earning a Film and Media degree from the University of Stirling. He started at the renowned Limelight production company as a runner, quickly rising to become an in-house editor. There, he honed his craft alongside industry legends like Steve Barron, John Lloyd and Daniel Kleinman. His career journey continued at Cut & Run, where he worked as assistant to editing legend Steve Gandolfi, further developing and refining his editing skills.
Julian's impressive and diverse portfolio includes cutting the celebrated TV series 'Dossa & Joe' for the late Caroline Aherne and the BAFTA-nominated special 'Victoria Wood With All The Trimmings.' He has also edited award-winning shorts such as 'Yours Truly' and 'Minimus,' showcasing his versatility across various formats.
In the world of advertising, Julian has made a significant impact, editing campaigns for brands such as Pepsi, Adidas, Vodafone, Ford, Lexus, Coors and Specsavers. His storytelling ability, comedic timing and considered approach has seen his work receive nominations and awards at many of the advertising industry’s most prestigious creative festivals, including British Arrows, LIA, Clio’s, APA collection, D&AD and Spikes Asia.
Beyond his editing prowess, Julian is a dedicated mentor, having served as a mentor for the Next Director Award's shortlist members at the D&AD Festival, and has previously been juror for prestigious bodies like The Creative Circle and D&AD.
As a self confessed 007 fan and all round cinephile it’s little surprise that one of Julian’s proudest achievements was editing the James Bond title sequence for 'Spectre'.
Julian's unique interests include a passion for remote-controlled toys, often excusing his purchases as gifts for his children. He has a famously sweet tooth with his breakfasts and afternoon snacks enough to send any calorie conscious individual into palpitations and is certainly at odds with his slim physique. His creative talents are matched by his warm and approachable personality, making him a favourite collaborator among directors, producers and colleagues alike.
At Square Peg Edit, Julian will continue to bring his intuitive storytelling and creative energy to a wide range of projects. His addition to our team underscores our commitment to excellence and innovation in editing and post-production.
Toby Abbott (E+P and partner) said, I’ve had the pleasure of working with Julian previously and it is a joy to welcome his talent and positivity to Square Peg. His ability as a visual storyteller is unquestionable and he is simply a joy to work with. I look forward to the creative magic he will undoubtedly bring.
