Progressive is continuing its NFL campaign, The Backup, with three new spots starring some of the league’s longstanding backup quarterbacks including Josh Dobbs, Colt McCoy, and Jacoby Brissett.
When quarterbacks are having an off day, there is a backup waiting on the sideline for the chance to get the job done for the team. The new spots, created by Arnold Worldwide, explore what it would be like if normal people could have their own backup come in, take their place, and finish any difficult project or chore they started.
Whether it’s assisting in a picture hanging mission, helping a wasp-fearing husband spray a wasp nest, or filing a couple’s tax return, the campaign reinforces that while backups may not be waiting to step in with an assist in real life, Progressive provides coverage that you can count on for your home and auto.
The first in the series to debut, “Backup Backup,” featured a dad struggling to successfully park a trailer in the driveway until Case Keenum steps in to offer him, well, some much-needed backup.
“Most football fans have an irrational love for their team’s back-up quarterback,” said Sean McBride, chief creative officer of Arnold. “And something like 65 different quarterbacks started games in the NFL last year, so back-ups have never been more relevant or important. Since they’re getting their chance to shine on the field, we figured it was high-time back-up QBs got their chance to shine as celebrity spokespeople, too.”
