With Milwaukee hosting the RNC, the city’s Historic Third Ward (HTW) Association launched a local advertising campaign to help draw attention to the district as an attractive tourist destination. The area was recognised as the #5 Best Art District according to USA Today’s 2024 'Best Reader’s Choice Awards.'
The campaign was inspired by Milwaukee-based Hanson Dodge, whose offices are located in the district. Developed pro bono, the agency identified the area’s 'beer notoriety' as a way to invite tourists and visitors to put aside their differences and engage in a little #Beerpartisanship fun. Said Jim Plaisted, executive director of the Historic Third Ward Association, “The Historic Third Ward welcomes people of all walks of life - and strives to always provide a welcoming, genuinely Milwaukee experience.” Established in 1976, the Historic Third Ward Association acts as a catalyst to guide the district as an innovative, liveable, and exciting mixed-use neighbourhood while preserving its historic and creative character.
The advertising campaign includes, among other elements, posters, window displays and a #Beerpartisanship card game in which players were filmed and videos shared on Instagram and other HTW social media outlets. There were no right or wrong answers; only a little fun. Of course, players who agreed on answers were each rewarded with a free cold beer.
The quiz included questions like:
Puppies or Kittens?
Pro or con mustard?
Is a hot dog a sandwich?
Is it wrong to wear socks with sandals?
And so on.
