Project by Anton Hjertstedt for SPACE10 & IKEA gives furniture faces to explore new ways of interacting with living spaces
Initiated by IKEA and its R&D lab SPACE10, Everyday Experiments is a series of digital experiments that explores new ways of interacting with the spaces we live in.
Anton Hjertstedt worked with Random Studio to bring furniture to life. Who do you live with? Hidden Character uses AR to bring your furniture to life. Set free your inner child and get to know your roommates by scanning objects with a tablet to transform them into characters. Each character is based on the unique properties of the object itself, generated by an algorithm that transforms its colour, size, shape and texture into a one-of-a-kind personality.
'We wanted the character design to be fun and playful. We quickly found ourselves drawing inspiration from artist Anton Hjerstedt. After we made some initial design sketches, we all felt it made more sense to actually bring him on the team.' - Random Studio
'It was brilliant to get involved at the embryonic stage of each characters development. We really felt like we were part of the creative team. Lots of laughs were had over Zoom calls, discussing facial expressions, personas and hair colours!' - Oskar illustration.
