Lieven Van Baelen directed ‘Doctors Without Borders’ latest film where a boy is fighting for his life. Archival footage propels us into the world of a war-stricken country where a child was pulled from the rubble after his primary school was bombed. The doctor who speaks off screen with a voice over, recounts the emotional journey of the boy and his mother who came into the emergency room.
Despite the doctor’s efforts, it looked like the boy’s chances were down, he didn’t think he was going to make it. But the compelling pleas and praying by the boy’s mother gives the doctor hope; he continues trying to revive the young child, who after all the odds were against him, survives. Today, because of the efforts of ‘Doctors Without Borders’ the boy lives and the mother still has her son.
The entirety of the cast in this film consists of real refugees.
“It was such an honour to work with the refugees who made this film possible. Their resilience, work ethic and their humbleness was astonishing. I have the utmost respect for them. I hope this film will have a positive impact on people who can help change the lives of the less fortunate. And I would also like to dedicate it to all the doctors from ‘Doctors Without Borders’ who risk their lives to save others. You are true heroes.” - Lieven Van Baelen.
