Recorded in Spanish, Los Pérez of Caviar directed the video encapsulating Selena's growth

Caviar shares the beautiful new music video for Selena Gomez’s ‘De Una Vez’ directed by Los Pérez (Tania Verduzco and Adrian Pérez).

The single marks the actor and singer’s first song to be recorded entirely in Spanish in nearly a decade - “I am incredibly proud of my Latin background. It felt empowering to sing in Spanish again and ‘De Una Vez’ is such a beautiful love anthem,” Selena said in a statement of her new track, which was produced by Tainy, Albert Hype, Jota Rosa and NEON16.

In the accompanying video using a combination of beautiful set designs and visuals, we see Selena return to her Hispanic heritage & dreamily move past heartbreak as she traverses through rooms in a home while reflecting and singing about her growth.

Los Pérez states: “The idea was basically a journey inside a house where Selena was going through different rooms. Every room has a different concept behind, that is helping us to express the emotional feeling of the song. She’s forgiving and letting memories vanish away. We thought that this song needed an emotional performance, so the idea of doing this one single shot approach with hidden cuts was perfect and Selena was keen on doing it.”

Leaning into the concept of magical realism and utilising Mexican cultural references to create that sensibility, including that of the sacred crystal heart on her chest, Los Pérez states: “We wanted to play with powerful language and images. We designed the heart (we call it the Milagro in Mexico culture) and it’s light to be a metaphor for the healing throughout the story.”

The iconic look is styled by Shirley Kurata. Dressed in a stunning Rodarte’s SS21 Daisy Floral Silk dress, with jewellery by Mexican designer Daniela Villegas. Los Pérez told Vogue “We wanted to play with the amazing flowers the way Frida Kahlo did, but making it modern and cool for right now. The flowers on the dress, hair, and within the video all connect with this idea of renewal.”

Due to the Covid travel ban, Los Pérez ended up shooting the video remotely in one day but thanks to the trust from Selena and with an amazing crew behind them this visual masterpiece is the end result.
