Snapper Films have welcomed director Matthias Hoene into the fold. Matthias is an exceptional storyteller and director, with an extensive skill set and remarkable talent to hone his craft across multiple platforms, while constantly evolving to create enchanting, captivating, and visually arresting stories.
Having graduated from The University of Arts in London as well as Central St Martins in film and graphic design, he made his feature directing debut with the British cult classic “Cockneys vs. Zombies” starring Harry Treadaway, Georgia King and Jack Doolan, which premiered at the London FrightFest. He then helmed the martial arts actioner, “Enter the Warriors Gate”, starring Dave Bautista and written by Robert Mark Kamen and Luc Besson for EuropaCorp and most recently completed the thriller “Little Bone Lodge” starring Joely Richardson.
Matthias has directed numerous award-winning commercials, helmed two Super Bowl spots and his very first commercial, Club 18-30’s “Doggy Style” for Saatchi & Saatchi won the Gold Lion at Cannes. He collaborated with the Adidas Parley environmental partnership to create an important and powerful short documentary “Dive” about cliff diver Anna Bader, focusing on plastic pollution and promoting the importance of ocean conservation. The film premiered at SXSW. He reprised the zombies theme for British mobile telephone network Giff Gaff, with the brilliant three minute short entitled "#dontbescared" all about helpful zombies. The short took over entire ad blocks on Channel 4 in the UK.
The Snapper Films team said, “At Snapper we believe that breaking boundaries is essential for creativity to thrive, so we were thrilled when Matthias approached us about joining our roster. We are all inspired and excited by his extensive variety of work. He has an intriguing & unexpected, yet accomplished and distinctive style, with a remarkable ability to walk such a delicate line with tone – his work is full of human insights with a lightness of touch. The craft is wonderful - but the bravery is captivating.”
Matthias said, “Sometimes in life, you immediately know when you meet a kindred spirit. When I met Helen in Kinsale I knew we were speaking the same language and had the same ambition: to create work that is both edgy and human, to foster personal relationships with agencies and clients that go deeper than just the current job, and to do what we all got into the industry for: Create work that changes minds, captures the zeitgeist, inspires people and makes you wonder how you got away with another beautiful, leftfield, and thought-provoking piece work.
The whole Snapper team is driven to create work that resonates on a deeper level and breaks new ground, and I am proud and excited to join their roster.”
Matthias resides in both London and LA.
