The Corner's Beagle Street Creature is Back On the Screen

Colonel Blimp's David Wilson shoots the latest spots for the controversial campaign

The Corner returns with two new commercials for Beagle Street Life Insurance. Blink’s David Wilson directs ‘Coins’ and ‘Limo’, which see the Gremlin-inspired creatures making their mischievous comebacks. The films have been graded at Finish by Colourist and rising star Julien Biard, with 2D Flame work completed by Judy Roberts.

The previous spot attracted some controversy in October, where it received complaints from concerned parents for being 'too frightening' to be aired in the day. 

The campaign aims to change young people’s perception of life insurance by engaging a new generation of consumers. 


Following a similar theme to ‘Reborn’, the fuzzy duo return for two 20-second commercials. 

In each film the monstrous brute is obliterated, making way for a cuter, show-stealing reincarnation. Julien comments ‘The main objective was to make our fluffy little star as cute as possible. In Limo it’s about bringing the rich autumn colour to life, whereas in Coins what we were trying to achieve were cosy vibes with the intimate low lighting.’ He adds ‘Having David sat beside me during the grade was a real pleasure. His creative input was a massive plus in creating the look that would suit the ad best.’

The Beagle Street campaign marks the end of a busy 2014 for the Finish Colourist, who also worked on brand films for Paul Smith Cycling and Rapha, as well as ‘#throughglass’, the stylish conceptual collaboration between Google Glass and FKA Twigs. 

He has high ambitions for this year, commenting ‘I’m very excited and I’m looking forward to 2015, last year was busy but I want this year to be even busier! I’ll hopefully get to meet and work with new directors and continue working on exciting projects.’

He says ‘The thing I enjoy the most about working on commercials is the relationship you build with directors, clients and cinematographers, sharing ideas and having the feeling that everybody is pushing forward to achieve the same goal.’ 

Julien adds ‘The great thing about commercials is that you get to work on a variety of projects where you meet new people who work in different ways. The feeling of being in constant creative motion is what I love.’
