There is a war being waged in America, invisible to most. Veteran suicide is a battle that is playing out daily for people who have sacrificed everything for their fellow citizens. The Overwatch Project is watching out for vets and creating tools that empower and embolden them to fight back against this invisible war.
This remarkably significant 90-second spot, directed by Klaus Obermeyer, accompanies the launch of Overwatch’s website and anchors the message of this outstanding organisation. More than 20 veterans and active military members commit suicide each day. Overwatch’s mission is to end this crisis by providing veterans of the world’s strongest military with new tools to save their lives during one’s darkest moments. David Miami and Rocket created this film to highlight that the fight isn’t over once the soldier leaves the battlefield. With slow-motion warfare filling the screen, soldiers navigate explosions and the haze of gunsmoke, and the voice over asserts that, while the enemy may be strong, these service members will never surrender. The unbreakable bonds of brother and sisterhood don’t end when they make it home safely, the war within continues and they persist in watching out for one another. The message is one of never backing down.
“The mission of this film was to remind veterans of the importance of their bonds to one another and how powerful those friendships can be in times of crisis and adversity. They can literally save lives.” says Klaus Obermeyer at Rocket.
“We’re deeply grateful and feel a sense of privilege to collaborate with the folks at The Overwatch Project,” adds Veronica Beach, David Miami Global head of production. “To communicate such an important message concerning our military veterans this Veteran’s Day is indescribably valuable. They deserve our utmost support and our full awareness.”
