Editor Jonnie Scarlett recently collaborated with Somesuch director Steve Rodgers in this nostalgically bleak tongue-in-cheek film for Rustlers. Written by Droga5 London, the film follows a young boy throughout his “80 Years of Torment” from a child experiencing heartless abuse progressing through his adolescence into troubled adulthood and finally into old age.
Jonnie’s edit organically seams together a series of sombre black and white memories from the Great Depression, World War II through to the the Peace Protests and beyond.
Finally, the scene shifts to colour as the old man eventually finds some salvation in his downtrodden life in the guise of a microwavable burger, accompanied by the tagline, “What a Time to be Alive.”
"Steve shot a load of great options and the agency already had a great track so we couldn't really go wrong. The main editorial focus was to sync beats to the physical hits on the screen,” comments Jonnie.
