Washington Square Films is the US production company for 'The Room Next Door,' directed by Pedro Almodóvar and starring Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton, set to premiere at The 81st Venice Film Festival. The Academy Award-winning director filmed 'The Room Next Door' – his first English-language feature and first shoot in the US – in both Spain and New York City under the banner of his company, El Deseo, with Washington Square Films handling the New York production. Joshua Blum and Han West served as Executive Producers.
"We were thrilled to be part of the film,” says Joshua Blum, founder and executive producer at Washington Square Films. “It was a pleasure to work with the wonderful people from El Deseo, and an honour to work with one of our heroes Pedro Almodóvar.”
The production in New York City spanned a year and a half, facing production challenges such as union strikes and changing seasons. The storied venue marked a new milestone for the celebrated Spanish director, whose films are beloved for their melodramatic flair, irreverent humour, stylised pop culture sets, and syncopated narratives.
