The very popular Greenply Laminates Commercial which Joshua Tree shot with actor Arjun Rampal late last year is back on TV for a second coming.
Originally released in 2013 the film directed by NY based director Marc Wilkins garnered much praise for both the story idea and the execution of it. The commercial traces the life of a village magician called Shaurya, played by Arjun Rampal, who starting his journey in a little obscure village in India rises to great heights and global popularity over a span of time.
His claim to fame is a magical box, in this context made of Greenply laminates, where any older item that he places in the box comes out looking brand new. Starting out in the village, Shaurya reaches dizzying heights but with success comes enemies and those doubting his abilities. Towards the end of the film we see an old and frail looking Shuarya attempting his very last trick by placing himself inside the magical box.
What happens next forms the end of the film where it finishes in absolute dramatic fashion.
“With a director as brilliant as Marc we knew that we had a great film at hand. All we needed to do was to provide him the production support. The scale of the film was grand and we shot both on location and in the studio. The entire production crew worked tirelessly to give their all to the project but the end result was worth every bit of the blood and sweat that went in,” explains Executive Producer, Joshua Upputuru of Joshua Tree.
The film was shot over four days in Mumbai: “The real challenge of the project from art point of view was to establish Shaurya’s journey from the village to the environs of Vegas. Everything from the sets, to the costumes, to the makeup and styling had to reflect the transitions and depict them correctly too. A lot of research on the part of the director as well as the team went into making the entire film look extremely authentic,” further states Upputuru.
