Speech Debelle and Josh Whitehouse to appear at event created by agency Hot Pickle

Ben & Jerry’s has teamed up with civil rights, anti-racism charity HOPE not hate and its Lewisham More In Common group, to whip up a music event with a sweet centre this Thursday. One Sweet Social aims to bring the community together and celebrate everything that unites us, with the help of tantalising tastes and tunes.

Hosted at Wunderlust on Thursday 20th October, One Sweet Social will feature music from Mercury prize-winner Speech Debelle and actor and musician Josh Whitehouse, plus DJ sets from South London’s Twinkat Soul, Rude Not To and Ross Allen.

Free Fairtrade ice cream will be a-flowing (music to those taste buds), and it will be whipped into never-tasted-before combinations. In between scoops and tracks, guests can speak to a host of community groups, all working hard to create inclusion and celebrate diversity in Lewisham. They’ll be able to hop on Wunderlust’s iconic red bus to find out more about how to get involved with their local group.

The event, created by Hot Pickle in partnership with the Ben & Jerry’s team, is the latest instalment in Ben & Jerry’s One Sweet World campaign, launched to bring people together and create a positive outlook within our communities at a time of increasing division.

To scoop up your tickets, head to benjerry.co.uk/onesweetsocial. Tickets cost £3 with proceeds going to support HOPE not hate’s charitable work.

Ed Shepherd, Ben & Jerry’s Social Mission Manager, said: "In the face of the increasing division we have seen in society in 2016, it’s fantastic to see how grass roots groups are working to celebrate what unites us all: hope, compassion and understanding. This event is all about creating a more positive vision of the future, and sharing in our belief that when communities come together great things happen!”

Nick Lowles, Chief Executive of charity HOPE not hate, said: “An inclusive and welcoming society starts with a belief that we all deserve respect, whatever our backgrounds. It is built by each of us doing our bit to drive a more positive narrative within our communities. We’ve had too much focus on division; now is the time to come together. That’s why we’re encouraging people across the country to focus on the things that unite our communities, through our More In Common campaign and supporting the excellent One Sweet World initiative.”
