Wish released a film celebrating their partnership with the Leeds United Football Club (LUFC). The piece raises a glass to their 12th man, the iconic Elland Road stadium that anchors the heart and soul of the club. Midfielder Weston McKennie opens the clip followed by speaking roles from his teammates Brenden Aaronson and Crysencio Summerville. Their cameos are complimented by archival game footage.
A fan echoes the spirited sentiments of the players by expressing her “wish” to bottle and sell the sound of Elland Road on the app where you go to buy everything– Wish. The final shot features the legendary stadium appearing on a floating island in the sky done by VFX artist Sem Leuven of 50mm.amsterdam. Colourist and Leeds native Luke Osborne extracted the football club’s colours out of these shots emphasising the yellows and blues in the skies.
“I grew up supporting Leeds, and I spent a lot of time at Elland Road watching them play– so it was very fun to work on a project in a place where I have such good memories,” said Luke.
Kenn MacRae and Jake Kedge of Whale Amsterdam and Martín Rossetti at Wish concepted the film Directed by Sau Ali. This marks another collaboration between Whale and Splash Studios who provided edit and grade, 3D floating stadium along with flame transitions by Rebecca Weltner.
