division7's Isaac Ravishankara directs short film for NIKI's 'But I'm Letting Go ahead of the album release and Prime Video premiere.
‘But I’m Letting Go’ charts a formative romantic relationship as it grapples with the limitations of long distance. Through each track ‘Before’, ‘Oceans & Engines’ and ‘High School in Jakarta’ we see the rise and fall of a relationship as they come of age. Shot on film over five days, Isaac shifts from a flashback of the couple's origin story to NIKI driving on her own, focusing on the loneliness felt when apart. The film will be premiering on Amazon Prime on 18th August and will stay on the platform for a year.
division7 director Isaac Ravishankara said, “Even though the core story of But I’m Letting Go is based on NIKI’s own life, what we set out to make was something much more universal. After all, nearly everyone has had that first love, and for most of us, it didn’t last. But more often than not, it’s not because either person wronged the other in some way, but just that as we grow and change, life has a way of pulling us apart. It’s nobody’s fault but distance and time. And yet, knowing that, it’s still always worth trying.”
