Quality Meats creates JD Vance-themed product to raise money for Kamala Harris

One of the hottest political news topics over the past week didn’t involve politics, but instead the sexual exploits of Republican VP candidate JD Vance and his home furniture. It started with a viral meme with a supposed excerpt from Vance’s memoirs, Hillbilly Elegy, involving sexual shenanigans and a couch – and while the meme was proven to be fabricated, it was covered by major news outlets that couldn’t report that rumour was, in fact, untrue. Which in turn led to even more memes, news coverage and even John Oliver’s take.

Creative agency Quality Meats utilised the moment to make a bigger statement about Vance’s controversial and polarising views, with the creation of a new product: JD Jelly Couch Lube, the first-ever personal lubricant made for more pleasurable couch love-making. The brand launched with an e-commerce website and announcement film with outreach support from Causes Up and Call To Activism. All proceeds from JD Jelly sales will go to the Kamala Harris campaign, or as the film states, “a childless cat lady who actually cares about protecting the fabric of our country,” a reference to Vance’s recent dig at Harris (although the film also clarifies Kamala actually has children but no cats (and that it’s not affiliated with the actual Harris For President Campaign). The whole activation was conceived and executed within five days.

"What JD Vance does with his couch in the privacy of his living room is up to JD Vance," said Jamie Stark, creative director at Quality Meats. "But if he were to be elected, and impose his extreme views on women’s rights upon the American people, well that could leave a stain on our country that would take a lot more than a fabric cleaner to get out."

According to JDJellyCouchLube.com, JD Jelly is water-based lubricant designed for less stains and 'better, wetter couch sex.' The product is currently available for pre-order on the site for the price of $20.24 per bottle, with samples ideally ready in time for the Democratic National Convention. The site also accepts donations only, for those who want to donate without purchasing the Couch Lube.

"We know Couch Lube isn’t for everyone," says Maxx Delaney, creative director at Quality Meats. "But hopefully it’s a fun way to keep America focused on what’s at stake this election. Which also happens to provide a convenient distraction for those weirdos hellbent on violating our democracy."
